A female indicted with harassing Kate McCann reportedly left her a phone message which questioned: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, twenty-four, who witnesses stated has persistently declared she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial accused with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court learned phone records and data recovered from phones recorded Ms Wandelt repeatedly requesting Madeleine's mother for a biological test throughout 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a vacation in Portugal - is among the most covered missing child cases and is still open.
One phone message, presented in court, recorded Ms Wandelt declaring: "I know I'm overweight and plain like Madeleine was, but I believe what I know."
While another instance of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's voicemail said: "Imagine there is a slight possibility that I am Madeleine? What then? Wouldn't that be important for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I possess a living here in Poland, I just want to understand," she added.
The jury was told that via emails, SMS messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a biological test, forwarded early photographs to her phone in a effort to show a resemblance to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and asserted to have "memories" from a early life with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, an investigator with the police force who gathered the evidence, advised the court there "seemed to lack any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also reached out to close associates of the McCanns, as per the phone records.
On October 9th, 2024, Gerry McCann answered a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "a wrong number."
That day Ms Wandelt deposited a message on Mrs McCann's voicemail stating "I will continue and I plan to establish my point."
The court was informed the co-defendant developed a association through digital means with Ms Wandelt prior to accompanying her on a appearance to the McCanns' residence in Leicestershire in December 2024.
Communication data showed Mrs Spragg had contacted via messaging service to Mrs McCann to say the media had depicted Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she deserved to be considered genuine in the period preceding the trip to that location, Leicestershire, in December 2024.
The court heard communications between the two defendants, in November 2024, planning endeavoring to acquire Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her bins or from silverware at a restaurant.
"We have to make a stand," the co-defendant advised Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the visit to their residence, Mrs Spragg dispatched a message which said: "We're currently sitting near the McCanns' home with our lights out like investigators. I wanted to achieve this with someone else I didn't imagine I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
The case continues.
