Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but includes several notable adjustments:
So essentially, the playlist delivers on its title: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for players seeking alternative methods to enjoy the title. But, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.
"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," says another. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and another lists everything they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the system. So this new playlist feels like the community compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. Another describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics shows this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
