Donald Trump on Sunday appeared to endorse a widely discredited allegation suggesting that Venezuela's leadership manipulates election technology internationally and led to his 2020 election defeat.
Although White House officials have earlier indicated that the president's approach toward Venezuela is largely influenced by concerns about migration and illegal drug operations, his latest comments hint that the administration's stance may also be based on an outlandish theory that was dismissed as untrue by a legal authority in the past.

The media outlet disbursed over three-quarters of a billion dollars in last year to election software firm to end a defamation suit that was partially founded on identical claims about the nation's purported participation in the 2020 election.
The development comes just days after reports emerged that the Justice Department has been conducting multiple interviews with those advocating this theory who continue to promote the notion that Caracas manipulates ballot system corporations and changes election results to favor their preferred candidates.
These figures assert they have proof of the claimed conspiracy and have briefed a taskforce located in Florida.
Trump's statements occur alongside major defense movements to the region, including the deployment of a military vessel to Venezuelan waters.
More recently, the government has ramped up pressure by classifying the Venezuelan-based Cartel de los Soles as a terrorist group, following previous designations by the government agency.
"Who knows what the procedure is among decision-makers," stated an academic expert from Kenyon College who focuses on security issues. "When it grabs his interest, my interpretation is it enters the procedure. The president requires to locate reasons in his individual perspective for conflict."
The professor added that drug trafficking allegations about Venezuela have not resonated with core followers, who have been unwilling to back foreign military action.
