The latest Far Cry title that audiences experienced was Far Cry 6, which featured Giancarlo Esposito as the antagonist, Antón, and came out during October 6, 2021. Throughout the franchise, it is known for delighting in action and insanity with similar glee, all while weaving gripping, ideologically themed stories. No wonder then that the network’s decision for a Far Cry seasonal program attracted two producers whose work have represented all of those elements.
Based on Ubisoft's successful video game property, the short-run anthology series will stream on Hulu and is being made by FX Productions. The anthology will also follow the video games' structure by having a different backdrop and cast of characters in each season.
Rob Mac, creator of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the talent behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will act as showrunners on the series through their labels, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be accompanied by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.
We’ve shared outstanding relationships with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a total six series and 32 seasons of television, and we are thrilled that they are joining forces for Far Cry,” commented Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a news release. “I have no doubt that they will deliver this story in a way that is innovative, gripping, and extremely entertaining. We also want to acknowledge our partners at Ubisoft for trusting us with this popular property.”
Mac will also star in the show, but as of now, we are unsure of what role that could be. Hawley's Alien: Earth was not long ago renewed for more episodes, with FX and Disney signing a new comprehensive agreement with the producer.
“Being able to collaborate together with Noah Hawley is a dream realized,” said Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been remarkably supportive, placing faith in us with one of the most iconic video-game universes ever created. And through it all, my FX partners always encourages me with their steady confidence and support.”
“What I love about the Far Cry game series is that it’s an anthology series. Every instalment is a interpretation of a theme, the same way every run of Fargo is a variation on a story,” noted Hawley. “To develop a epic action show that can evolve from season to season, while always examining the essence of humanity through this multifaceted and chaotic lens, is a dream come true. I’m eager to work with Rob and bring our mutual unconventional, ambitious sensibility to the television.”
A schedule for when we can expect the new Far Cry show has remains undisclosed. The series will stream on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus globally.
