The Red Devils Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Munich was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
